2005 Horizons of Flight Exhibition
CAE SimuFlite announced the winners of the 12th
annual Horizons of Flight Aviation Art Exhibition and Competition. Winners were selected from 27 juried works.
Domenic DeNardo, Cranston, RI, received Best of Show for his oil painting
No Quarry Today. The painting depicts two P-51s flown by Capt. Don Gentile and Lt. John Godfrey, the top
leader/wingman duo in the European theatre of operations, in a target support mission to Munich, March 16, 1944.
Eddie Moore, Ft. Worth, Texas, received the Award of Distinction for his work Busted. His Genesis Artist Colors painting depicts the
Lockheed Martin submarine-launched and recovered multipurpose unmanned air vehicle (MPUAV).
Awards of Merit were presented to Paul Burrows, Summerville, S.C. for his oil
painting Hawaii Bound; Keith Ferris, Morris Plains, N.J. for his oil painting Controlled Powered Flight;
Ron Hart, Bend, Ore. for his pastel work Old Glorious Bellanca; Mel Wysock, Cayucos, Calif. for his
acrylic painting Marauding Power.
The AWAM (Association for Women in Aviation Maintenance) award was presented
to Alison Boyle for her oil painting A Woman's Place.
The awards judge was illustrator/artist Mike Wimmer.
Aviation artist Gerald Asher of Fort Worth, Texas, and illustrator Don Punchatz, Arlington, Texas, selected
the works in the exhibition.
CAE SimuFlite and FLYING magazine jointly sponsor the
exhibit, which was first held in 1993. Horizons of Flight was created to support aviation artists and to give
the public an opportunity to view their work. Previous Best of Show winners include James Dietz, (1993, 1994, 1999, 2000, and 2001),
James Kennedy (1995), Paul Rendel (1996), Michael O'Neal (1997), Michael Flahault (1998), Ron Hart (2002) and
Keith Ferris (2003/4).
