FAA Awards CAE SimfinityTM First Level 4 Qualification

TORONTO - March 4, 2003 --

CAE today announced it has received its first FAA FTD (flight training device) Level 4 qualification for a CAE Simfinity™ Integrated Procedures Trainer (IPT). The IPT was qualified as a Bombardier CRJ200 FTD as part of Atlantic Coast Airlines aviation training program.

“CAE Simfinity™ is transforming training standards in the aviation industry by incorporating the same high fidelity simulation software used in CAE’s full flight simulators into ground-school training devices,” said Kamilia Sofia, Vice President, Integrated Training Solutions, Civil Simulation and Training division, CAE. “This new approach provides an integrated, efficient and flexible training solution.”

The CAE Simfinity™ IPT is independent of aircraft-specific hardware and includes a simulation-based, graphically displayed virtual cockpit, aircraft system panels and schematics, and can be reconfigured for multiple aircraft types. The IPT provides the student with an advanced skill set previously attainable only on full flight simulators (FFS). This ensures consistency, accuracy and quality across all training media.

“Integrating the CAE Simfinity™ IPT into our CRJ training program will increase both quality and efficiency,” said Randy Hamilton, Director of pilot training, Atlantic Coast Airlines. “Pilots benefit from a deeper understanding of aircraft systems much earlier in the training process, enabling them to focus on operational events in the FFS. This will ultimately improve ACA line operations.”

CAE is a global leader in providing advanced simulation and controls equipment and integrated training solutions for customers in the civil aviation, military and marine markets. With annual revenues in excess of $1 billion, CAE employs more than 6,000 people in Canada, the United States and around the globe.
