SimuFlite Announces
"Horizons of Flight" Winners
DALLAS/FORT
WORTH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Texas, November 1, 2001 --
SimuFlite has announced the winners of the 9th annual Horizons of Flight
Aviation Art Exhibition and Competition.
Winners were selected from 31 juried works. James Dietz, Seattle, received
the Best of Show award for his oil painting "Too Late in the Day," which
depicts a German airfield late in World War II.This is the fifith time
Dietz has received the Horizons of Flight Best of Show win, having previously
received the award in 1993, 1994, 1999, and 2000.
The SimuFlite Award, for the work of art best representing business aviation,
went to Michael Flahault, Montreal, Canada, for his watercolor "Challenger."
Flahault received Best of Show at the 6th annual Horizons of Flight in
1998.
Awards of Merit went to Ardell Bourgeois, British Columbia, for his gouache
painting "Air Show Air Force One;" Paul Burrows, Summerville, S.C. for
his oil painting "And They're Payin' Me for This!;" Alex Durr, Ft. Worth,
Texas, for his oil painting "Air Refueling;" Domenic DeNardo, Providence,
R.I., for his oil painting "Raptor Dominance;" Carl Jones, San Jose, Calif.
for his oil painting "Checkered Tail Dusters;" Charles Kadin, Toronto,
Canada for his oil painting "Tracker on Deck;" and Philip West, England,
for his oil painting "Attack on the Yalu Bridges."
The awards judge was illustrator and artist Jim Sharpe from Denton, Texas.
The works in the exhibition were selected by aviation artist Gerald Asher
of Fort Worth, Texas, and Marcie Inman, Dallas, gallery director/curator
of the Irving Arts Center, Irving, Texas.
SimuFlite and Flying magazine jointly sponsor the exhibit, which was
first held in 1993. Horizons of Flight was created to support aviation
artists and to give the public an opportunity to view their work. Previous
Best of Show winners include James Kennedy (1995), Paul Rendel (1996),
Michael O'Neal (1997), and Michael Flahault (1998).
This year's show premiered at SimuFlite Oct. 1 and closes Nov. 30. For
